Physiotherapy Clinic Uniforms: A Guide for Rehab Teams

Navy, light blue and green scrub suits side by side

Physiotherapy clinic uniforms need to move as much as the therapists do. Most rehab teams choose either stretch scrubs or a polo-style top with comfortable trousers, in one clinic colour, with the logo and each therapist’s name embroidered on the chest. The right choice depends on how hands-on your sessions are, how clinical you want the space to feel, and how often the uniforms will be washed.

What physiotherapists actually do in a uniform

A physiotherapist’s day is closer to a coach’s day than a ward nurse’s. In a single session a therapist may kneel beside a plinth, support a patient’s leg at shoulder height, demonstrate a squat, walk alongside someone on parallel bars and then sit down to write notes. Uniforms that work in a consulting room can fail quickly here.

Before choosing a style, watch a normal session and note:

  • How often staff kneel, squat or lift their arms above their heads.
  • Whether they demonstrate exercises on the floor or on mats.
  • How much close contact there is with patients, for example during manual therapy.
  • Whether the clinic also runs a gym area, hydrotherapy or home visits.

These points decide how much stretch, length and coverage you need.

Stretch scrubs or polo-style tops

There are two common approaches, and many clinics mix them.

Scrub suits with stretch

Scrubs give a clear clinical look and are familiar to patients from hospitals. For physiotherapy, a stretch blend makes a real difference: the top does not pull across the back when the therapist reaches forward, and the trousers do not bind at the knee during a deep squat. Look for:

  • A top long enough to stay tucked or covered when arms go up.
  • A neckline that stays modest when leaning over a plinth.
  • Trousers with a drawstring or elastic waist and enough room in the seat and thigh.
  • Pockets that do not empty themselves when the wearer kneels.

Our guide to scrub pockets and features covers the pocket choices in more detail.

Polo-style tops

Some rehab and sports injury clinics prefer polo t-shirts with trousers, because the look is closer to a fitness setting and puts patients at ease. Polos work well for gym-based rehab and sports physiotherapy. They are less suited to clinics attached to hospitals, where staff may want to look consistent with the medical team.

We make scrub suits and scrub tops and trousers to order. If your team prefers polos, mention it when you ask for a quote. If you already have polos, you can send them to us for logo and name embroidery; embroidery accepts small quantities and garments you bring.

Uniforms by role

Role Common choice Notes
Physiotherapists Stretch scrubs or polo-style top One colour for all therapists keeps the clinic look simple
Senior or lead therapist Same uniform, different title, or a lab coat for assessments Embroidered titles avoid the need for a separate style
Rehab assistants Scrubs in a second colour Patients can tell who is a therapist and who is assisting
Front desk Smart tunic or shirt in clinic colours Should match the brand without looking clinical
Housekeeping Practical support-staff uniform Durable, easy to wash

In a small clinic with three or four therapists, one style in one colour for all clinical staff is usually enough. Larger rehab centres and hospital physiotherapy departments often use colour to separate therapists, assistants and students.

Fabric for active work

Physiotherapy uniforms get hot. Therapists are moving constantly, and many Kerala clinics run with fans rather than full air conditioning, especially through the humid monsoon months. Points to weigh:

  • Stretch blends give freedom of movement for kneeling, squatting and lifting.
  • Poly-cotton holds its colour and shape through frequent washing.
  • Cotton breathes well but creases and may fade faster with daily washing.

Ask for a sample in the fabric you are considering and have a therapist wear it through a full working day, including demonstrations on the floor. Our guide on choosing scrub fabric explains the trade-offs between blends.

Colour and branding

Physiotherapy clinics often want to look calm and energetic at the same time. Navy, teal, green and grey are practical for daily wear and hide small marks from mats and equipment. Some clinics pick a colour from their logo so that uniforms, signage and appointment cards match.

For branding, the usual layout is:

  1. Clinic logo on the left chest.
  2. The therapist’s name and title, such as “Physiotherapist” or “Rehab Assistant”, underneath.
  3. Optionally a department name on the sleeve for hospital-based teams.

Patients in long treatment programmes come to know their therapist by name, so name embroidery is worth including. See our guide to name embroidery on staff uniforms for how to prepare the name list.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing for looks over movement. A fitted, non-stretch top may look smart on the hanger and split at the seam after a month of manual therapy.
  • Ignoring trouser length. Long trousers catch under the heel when kneeling. Check length on the sample.
  • Ordering one set per person. Active work means daily washing. Plan enough sets for the laundry cycle plus spares.
  • Forgetting new joiners. Keep the colour and style on record so a therapist who joins later gets a matching uniform.

Ordering for a physiotherapy clinic

Our minimum order is 30 sets, and sizes can be mixed within that, which suits a clinic or a hospital rehab department. One paid sample set is made first, and its cost is credited against your bulk order. After you approve the sample, production takes 15 to 20 working days. We keep the fabric, colour, style and size details on record so reorders match.
